A Loom alternative with no account and no subscription

Easy Take vs Loom: record screen and camera on a Mac with no account and no subscription, and keep a local video file. What Loom does better and how to switch.

Updated 4 October 2026

Easy Take and Loom side by side

Loom and Easy Take both record your screen and your camera. They solve different problems. Loom is built around sharing: you record, and the video lives online behind a link. Easy Take is built around a finished file: you record, cut out the mistakes and export a video that stays on your Mac.

Prices checked on 4 October 2026 on Loom’s pricing page. Prices change, so check the vendor’s page before you decide.

Who should pick Loom

Loom does several things Easy Take does not do at all.

  • You need a link right away. Loom is made for recording a quick message and pasting a link into Slack or an email a moment later. Easy Take gives you a file, and sharing it is up to you.
  • You want replies on the video. Viewers can comment and react on Loom. Easy Take has no comments.
  • You want to know who watched. Loom shows viewer insights on every plan. Easy Take has nothing like it.
  • You want transcripts and captions. Loom transcribes videos in many languages. Easy Take has no transcripts.
  • Your team is on Windows or phones. Loom lists apps for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android. Easy Take is Mac only.
  • You send short messages and stay inside the free limits. If 25 videos of up to 5 minutes at 720p are enough, the free plan may cost you nothing.

Who should pick Easy Take

Easy Take is for people who record a few times a year and want a good-looking video file they own.

  • You do not want an account or a subscription. There is no sign-in. You pay $14.99 once, after three free full-quality exports, and every future update is included. Projects never lock or expire.
  • You want your recordings to stay on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded. The video goes where you put it.
  • You need a file, not a link. A course platform, a client’s drive or a slide deck needs an MP4. Every Easy Take export is one, with no watermark.
  • You want it to look finished. A gradient backdrop, rounded corners, soft shadows and a camera bubble are there from the start. Export in 1080p, 1440p or 4K, in landscape, portrait or square.
  • You make mistakes on camera. Split, trim and delete clips, undo anything, and use Reset to Original to bring the full recording back. The recorded files are never rewritten.

Easy Take records a whole display or a single window, your camera and your microphone together, each to its own file. It has four layouts: you, screen, you and screen with a camera bubble, and side by side. You can switch layout while recording, or change it afterwards for any part of the video. Speaker notes float on screen and are never recorded, and if something crashes, the next launch recovers the recording. See pricing for the full deal.

What Easy Take does not do

Easy Take has no share links, no comments, no viewer insights, no transcripts and no Windows version. If your videos are quick messages to a team that lives in links and replies, Loom is likely the better tool.

How to switch from Loom

  1. Download the Loom videos you want to keep. On Loom’s pricing page, downloading is listed as a Business feature.
  2. Get Easy Take from the Mac App Store (coming soon). You do not need to create an account.
  3. Grant camera, microphone and screen recording permission when the app asks.
  4. Pick a display or window, your camera and your microphone, choose a layout and record. The guide to recording your screen and webcam walks through it.
  5. Cut out the mistakes and export. Your first three full-quality exports are free, so you can try it on real work first. Then share the file the way you already share files.
